Case Example: Preclinical Group at Top 20 Global Company Uses Phoenix WinNonlin to Manage PK/PD Workflows

Pharsight recently collaborated with preclinical scientists at a Top 20 Pharma to help them transition to Phoenix WinNonlin and enable significant productivity improvements for key analysis and reporting tasks. The preclinical group relied on their company's information technology/deployment team (IT) to develop PK/PD data analysis workflows. IT created a number of macros using Excel to address the needs of the preclinical, toxicology, and DMPK groups. Initially this seemed like a good approach, since Excel was readily available. However, over time both the preclinical group and their IT colleagues realized this this approach restricted scientists' access to only those specific workflows, proved challenging to support as only IT was able to modify them, and limited the scientist's ability to utilize more sophisticated types of modeling (compartmental, population PK) in their work.

With Phoenix WinNonlin, PK/PD workflow creation is now fully in the control of the scientists. Users can quickly create, modify, and enhance a workflow. Workflows can be easily shared with other colleagues who can visualize the analysis steps to perform quality assurance (QA), re-run the analysis to incorporate new data, and quickly and efficiently apply analysis templates to other studies. The preclinical group is able to use Phoenix WinNonlin as a single tool for the full complement of PK/PD data analysis, table generation and graphical reporting activities to support critical drug development tasks in their organization.
