PKS™ Requirements
PKS™ is deployed as a three-tier application, including:
- Database: an Oracle database back end
- Web server: a middle-tier XML API that runs Java servlets
and Java server pages (Apache-Jakarta's Tomcat Server 5.0, included with
PKS, or a WebLogic server version 8.x)
- Clients: a Web browser interface and a number of possible
Windows® desktop applications that communicate via XML through the PKS
middle-tier to the database
The database, Web server, and clients should be installed on physically
separate machines. PKS relies on the following hardware and software components.
Required Hardware and Software for the Database Server
- Pentium® III 1GHz processor or higher
- 512MB Memory or higher
- 20 GB or larger Hard Drive (for Oracle instance)
- Hewlett Packard UNIX 11i, Windows® 2000 Professional SP2 or later (recommended
operating system), Sun Solaris 7 or later, UNIX certified on Sun Solaris
or Redhat Linux version 9
- Oracle Standard or Enterprise Edition 9i or 10g
Required Hardware and Software for the Web Server
- Pentium® III 1GHz+ processor or higher
- 512MB internal memory or higher (Windows® 2000)
- Minimum 10 GB hard drive
- The middle tier memory setting should be 50% of the physical memory
available on the Web server. Thus, if the server has 1 GB, then it should
be set to 512MB.
- Windows® 2000 Professional SP2 or later, or Red Hat Linux
- Microsoft® Internet Explorer 5.5 or 6.0, or Netscape 6.2 (used to configure
the Web server; can be on the middle tier machine or on a remote machine).
