PKS™ Requirements

PKS™ is deployed as a three-tier application, including:

  • Database: an Oracle database back end
  • Web server: a middle-tier XML API that runs Java servlets and Java server pages (Apache-Jakarta's Tomcat Server 5.5, included with PKS, or a WebLogic server version 9.2)
  • Clients: a Web browser interface and a number of possible Windows® desktop applications that communicate via XML through the PKS middle-tier to the database

The database, Web server, and clients should be installed on physically separate machines. PKS relies on the following hardware and software components.

Required Hardware and Software for the Database Server

  • Pentium® III 1GHz processor or higher
  • 1,024MB Memory or higher
  • 20 GB or larger Hard Drive (for Oracle instance)
  • Oracle Enterprise Edition 9i, 10g, or 11g or Oracle Standard Edition 10g
  • Any Operating System that supports the Oracle requirements is acceptable. PKS was tested on the following OS: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Sun Solaris 8, HP-Unix 11, Redhat Linux version 9

Required Hardware and Software for the Web Server

  • Pentium® III 1GHz processor or higher
  • 512MB internal memory or higher
  • Minimum 10 GB hard drive
  • Any Operating System that supports the Web Server requirements is acceptable. The PKS middle tier was tested on the following OS: Windows XP SP3, Windows 2003 Server, Windows Server 2008, Sun Solaris 8, HP-Unix 11, Redhat Linux version 9
  • Microsoft® Internet Explorer 6.0 (used to configure the Web server; can be on the middle tier machine or on a remote machine).
