Getting your Pharsight software up and running requires you to download and install the software (if you haven't already). Then download and install the new Pharsight License Wizard (PLW) 2.0. This is the integrated license installer for all Pharsight desktop software products, regardless of whether the license type is Node or Float.
In every case you will:
FIRST: |
INSTALL THE APPROPRIATE APPLICATION AND LICENSING SOFTWARE |
SECOND: |
LAUNCH THE PHARSIGHT LICENSE WIZARD (PLW) 2.0, AND ACTIVATE THE LICENSE USING YOUR AUTHORIZATION CODE |
Start with your licensing email from Pharsight's Order Fulfillment department. This email will contain:
An example screenshot of the information required to activate a license is given below. Follow the instructions in your pdf attachment, using the information from the table in your email that is similar to the one presented below.

For answers to any questions that do not appear in this list, please contact licensing@pharsight.com.
1. Why do I have to download and install the Pharsight License Wizard 2.0?
There are two reasons for the new PLW:
a) Pharsight's software licenses are now locked to individual machines. The Pharsight License Wizard (PLW) 2.0 has the tools necessary to obtain the unique system lock code. When activating in "On-line" mode, the authorization code + system lock code are sent to our authentication server, which uses them to make a license for the specific machine. The authentication server then sends this locked license back to the PLW, which installs the license file to the location specified in the "Product Selection" box.
b) In the past, each Pharsight software product had its own license installer, withdifferent instructions for how to use it. The PLW is an integrated license installer for all Pharsight products, so the same license installer can be used to activate any Pharsight software license on the machine.
We strongly recommend installing the PLW to its default location, which is C:\Program Files\Pharsight\Pharsight Licensing Wizard.
2. During license activation, what do I select in the Product Selection box?
This will depend upon a) which Pharsight software you are activating, and b) whether the license type is a Node or a Float license.
For Node licenses, install and run the PLW on the local machine. When activating, select the installation directory for the software that you want to activate, for example C:\Program Files\Pharsight\Phoenix or C:\Program Files\Pharsight\WinNonlin.
For Float licenses, install and run the PLW on the license server machine. When activating, select the floating license server installation directory, by default C:\Program Files\Pharsight\Pharsight Floating License Server.
Note that on 64-bit Windows, the âProgram Filesâ folder will instead be named âProgram Files (x86)â.
3. I am an existing Pharsight customer, and all I want to do is renew my annual license. Do I need to download a newer version of my Pharsight software?
All of our Order Fulfillment emails contain a download link for the latest version of the software that was purchased. If you already have an older version of the software, and all you want to do is re-activate the license for another year, you do not have to download and install the latest version. Just use the PLW with the pdf instructions to activate the renewal license.
We do strongly encourage you to use the latest version, as this will have the most recent product enhancements and Windows platform compatibility testing.
Tip: If you get a prompt to remove older licenses of the same type when activating a renewal license, click Yes to the prompt. This will remove the older license that is about to expire so you wonât get any more warnings about it.
4. I followed the instructions to do an On-Line activation of my license, and I got an error similar to âThe request code failed with status code HTTP 417: Expectation failedâ. What gives?
This means that the online activation failed due to lack of internet access, or blockage by a firewall or proxy server. First, go to the opening screen of the Pharsight License Wizard 2.0, and obtain the System Lock Code. Then, use one of the following options to do an Off-line activation:
Option 1: Visit the software license request page given below. Use your Authorization Code and System Lock Code to request a license:
http://licensing.pharsight.com/LicenseRequestPage/default.aspx
Use the âOff-lineâ option in the PLW 2.0 to install the license you get from this page.
Option 2: send the following information to licensing@pharsight.com and request instructions for an Off-line activation:
We will use the System Lock Code to make a license code for your machine, and send it back with instructions to do an Off-line activation.
5. When I click the âAcquire Licenseâ button during the On-line activation, I get an error: âError writing file C:\...\lservrc. Make sure you write permission on the file.â
This is most often seen on Windows 7 when User Access Control security setting is set to High. This prevents applications without admin privileges from writing to files. Please verify that you are logged onto the machine as an Administrator, and then do the following:
If the problem persists, please contact support@pharsight.com for further assistance.
6. I want to move my Pharsight software installation to a new computer. What do I do?
If your license type is Floating, all you need to do is install the Pharsight software on the new machine. Then point the Pharsight software to the license server to Acquire the license. Instructions for how to do this are in the Getting Started Guide pdf that installs with the software. When following the instructions, you will need to know the name of the license server machine; your IT staff will have this.
If your license type is Node, please forward your purchase order information to licensing@pharsight.com and ask for a Change Computer Request.
7. I plan to upgrade to Phoenix soon, but I want to continue using WinNonlin 5.x for some time while I finish up existing projects or learn the Phoenix application. Is this possible?
Yes, this is possible. The license type that will work with either version is the âLegacy WinNonlin licenseâ, i.e. the license for WinNonlin 5.x will also work with Phoenix. If you want to do this, make sure to purchase or renew as a WinNonlin 5 license.
If youâre having difficulty getting both versions to work, please contact support@pharsight.com for assistance.
